Too Cool For School
PCRG on Thursday was 2 x 1500m (1min SR) and then something when we finished that, depending how long it took. My times were a little sad, though consistent, both 6:15s. Then with barely 25 seconds rest it was off on an out to 'the white van' and back. The van was parked past the 500m mark, so that turned into a 1.x rep. Not sure exactly how far but it took me 4:28.
Not the best session time wise, I just can't seem to get moving in the cold ... though the actual temp was around 9, the apparent temp was just over 6. I had the long sleever on for the whole time. On a good note, however, the hammy seemed happy :-)
I was thinking of backing up for the same session Friday, with the idea of taking it slower, but told myself I was due a rest day. To be honest though I just couldn't face the thought of being out there in the cold again. Should've gone, it was perfect - around 14 degrees.

Hit the road about 5.15am this morning and put in a couple of kms on my own before joining in other early starters Mat, Sal and Andrew for half an hour. We then met up with the 6am people and headed out to New Farm and beyond.
I ended up running for just over 2h50m and doing about 32k. It was a real struggle. Unlike Thursday the hammy was annoying most of the way and it wasn't until the 28k mark that it started to feel alright.
Funny, its always much worse after a rest day. The best its felt in months was immediately after the Warwick Pentathrun. Hmmmm, and its supposed to be an overuse injury.

Isn't it funny how, even if we don't know the distance, we still record the time to the second... :-)

Look after that hammy Tesso - not long now until GCM. Looking forward to catching up with you then !
Yes Tesso
I'm finding this too that the breaks don't help me that much and it is better to do a recovery run than to take a day off.
Go figure!
do you think your hammy might be like plants? if you talk sweetly and in a nice voice, it'll be better? i think you should offer up your legs to mythbusters.
Hey Tesso, you should come and do some training sessions with us - then when you head north it'll be warm. Last Thursday, our session started in 4.4 degrees, with an apparent temp of 2. Interestingly, between when we started (6am) and 7:30, the temp dropped to 3.9 and the apparent to 1.1!
You've found the cure.. just don't stop. Hope it doesn't give you too much further trouble.. injuries suck.
probably a good thing you are not trying to PB your PCRG repeats at this stage Tesso. for goodness sake taper won't you ;-)
You need two sessions a day Tesso. That'll really confuse it.
Nice run on Saturday, Just make sure you get in a good long run the day before GCM to let the hammie know it's time to wake up.
Funny, that Tesso. My knee gives me less trouble the day after a long run than any other time.
It's all cold running weather now, down here in Melbourne. Do you want some of it?
I know what you mean about the weather!!! I stayed in bed today out of the rain :-)
Gosh 32km runs seems such a distant memory :-) Take care of the hammie!
