3k Time Trial

Today was to be the last really hard hit out before the GC Half. In my previous TT three weeks ago I ran 13:06 and was happy with that as it was just days after my first speed session since the end of February.

I've put in a solid three weeks of training so today there wasn't going to be any excuses. I set myself a goal of 12:45 but was quietly confident of going a little under that.

I didn't :-( 12:49. Almost a minute off my PB and my third slowest TT in almost three years. I can't even say I did my best because in hindsight I don't think I did, my heart just wasn't in it today. It only really hurt for the last 100 meters or so, it should hurt the whole way.

My run aside it was a great morning, the highlight being Jonesy's comeback after almost six months off with injury. And sooooo many people ran PBs or came with seconds of their best and so are on fire for the Gold Coast. Hugh and Sacha were back playing the bongos at the start/finish. And there was a guy there videoing everything so there was lots of playing up for the camera. Pity about that pathetic 12 minutes and 49 seconds putting a damper on things.

Tessoooooooooooooo, dont be glum and hard on yourself! You've been training really hard, but you're still only just coming back from an injury that saw you reduce your normal training schedule down to a mere dot. You'll be pb-ing again before you know it, you'll see :)

Heh Tesso who are you trying to kid? You are just winding us all up so when you run 80mins for the half at Gold Coast we will all be speechless......

Seriously though mate, chin up. You are only just coming back into speedwork. 3 weeks is nothing. I would have agreed that you could do better than 12:45 today as you are in that shape but we all have days where it doesn't turn out that way. When I saw you I tried to yell out encouragement to you as you looked like you were too busy cheering everyone else on that running hard. But damn girl, you had a great finish! You must have done a negative split or did you just start sprinting when you saw the finish hee hee?

Don't forget Tess - most runners out there didn't work all night and turn up to do a 3km TT BEFORE going home to hit the sack. I don't care what you say, it DOES affect your performance. That's okay as long as you never work the night before a big race :)

Let's get together and have coffee/lunch/dinner/drinks/chocolate and plan some exciting races and goals for the next six months.......

Tess.... the numbers will come down again- so quickly it goes so slowly it returns. Your out there running though, which is by far the better option! Pathetic and tesso should not be in the same room!!!

See you in a week and a half!

I was going to chime in on being too hard on yourself but you probably know that anyway. Chasing times can really be disappointing at times but that isn't why I run.

Hey Tesso, if you know my friend Barb, she not only ran the Terry Fox run but had her picture appear on page three of the Canberra Times! Typical hey! The photo they published can be found at the Canlab site, it’s at 2006 – June – 18 June – 18Funnrun – DSC0060 (image 9. Expand twice … front left blue top! Unmistakable actually). Hope you can locate it!

Ah Tesso! You forgot that knee injury slows your leg speed down a bit. Much like mine. Feels like you are running on the spot but eventually you will get the speed back. Good luck for the half.

12:49 is good, and hey, at least you could run today, I couldn't! :(

David is great, and I would be happy if he wins it. My favourite housemate however is Camilla, she's always putting her foot in it since she's around such a weird group of surfie type guys who can't stand strong minded females, that's my opinion of it anyway. There's quite a few in there that I can't stand, but I'm upset for Katie being thrown out, I thought Jamie might go. (This week, unlike so many others, I haven't voted, and I'm sure I've saved Camilla a few times).

Slacker, get the finger out Tesso!
Seriously take it easy on yourself. I didn't realise you worked nights too. Patience, it will come back. ;-)

Ah, what's a few seconds?! A good improvement in 3 weeks, especially as your heart wasn't in it - just one of those days. You know the speed will return :)

Tesso, it's time to take the gloves off. No more fighting yourself and more time running. Just remember, it is better to be running than not running.

Tesso, I can't add much to what the others have said. I agree with all of the above. I certainly thought 12.49 was pretty zippy considering what you have been through.

Of course I'm tipping Australia to win.

As a talking point, I wouldn't be suprised if Guus starts with Josip Skoko tonight in the role Wilkshire and Sterjovski have played in the last two games.

And maybe Archie Thompson may get a go as a sub. Croatia at times looked vunerible to the quick Japanese strikers and will be under more pressure with their main defender and captain Kovac out suspended.

I'll just echo what other have said and add that you really should be concentrating more on running consistently and staying injury free than setting PBs at this stage of your comeback from the knee thing.
