Plugging Away

The momentum continued with another solid week, though I was a bit tired on a couple of days.

Still in Sydney on Monday. Did an easy run from Annandale to the bay, a lap, then back. 12k all up.

Tuesday at PCRG I think Sunday's 38k finally caught up with me and so wasn't firing on all cylinders for the sess. Still, did my best for what was a mix of 1min and 30sec efforts plus a hill rep.

Wednesday was back to Coot-tha - took it easy this time.

Thursday at PCRG was 1k, 500m, 1k, 500m, 1k with a 45sec SR. Times were 3:55, 1:56, 4:00, 1:55, 4:09. Died on that last one but was rapt with the rest. My best session of the type in months.

Friday at PCRG was the same as Thursday, though I held back and just ran at 4:10 pace. Felt easy :-)

Saturday was 30k at around 5:30 pace.

Sunday I did 18k at a sendoff run for Stevie, who's been a PCRG member for a few years. He left to go home to NZ on Monday. Clairie and I can remember his very first session, we both said to eachother "this guy's gonna be so much fun!". We were right. He really is such a special guy, always so positive, and encouraging, and good for a laugh etc etc. We're gonna miss him :-(

Weekly total - 112k

Sneaking a drink from the BRRC water table during Stevie's run

So far so good this week ....

Monday - easy 5k. Unfortunately I managed to miss the rain which meant it was warmish out there.

Tuesday - 3k TT at PCRG. Goal was 12:20 but wondered if I could do it considering the rain, those massive puddles we had to run through make for very heavy shoes. Ran the 1st km in 4:07, the second in 4:06, and put the foot down to run 4:03 for the last one. Total time - 12:16. That was my equal best in 14 months :-) Finished off with a push-up PB of 40 (previous best was 36).

Wednesday did 20k with 5k easy then 15k averaging 5:03 pace. It was a bit humid out, I lost 1.5kg in sweat!

I've decided to skip this weekend's Caboolture 6hrs. I'm worried about how long it would take to recover from properly and thus resume normal training. And if things continue on the way they are going now, I reckon I can do a 50k PB in Canberra. Hope so anyway.

Yep, it has been nice and humid all year so far in Canberra, should suit you down to the ground for a 50k.

Yeah no rain this morning but I agree it was humid.

Training seems to be going along very well for you at the moment.

Gee Tesso, I reckon that training that well makes you a shoe-in for Canberra. At the very least you have to go into the race with confidence. Not only do you have the K's in the legs, but you've also got some great speed (very nice TT time!).

When I read the Thursday session I was thinking 'geez, she'll run a good 3 or 5k', and you did! I need a pacer for my next 5000 if you're available? Maybe Marathon Eve ;)

Nice going Tesso, I think that is a wise move with Caboolture, running laps takes it toll and besides you can't predict the weather it will probably bucket down again making it a bit hairy

No wonder there was no water left when I ran through on Sunday.

You are recording some good times and long distances Tesso. I'll have to warn Tegwen to put a bit more effort into her training for the 50.

Nice training block Tesso. Must have been that great Sydney weather helped you run the fast 3k TT. JD told me about the Caboolture no race at the Striders run. A good move if you want the PB.

again, big WOOTS for you, sweet toots!

maybe there's something in the water only we're not to drink it; we're to run in it.

Tesso, Caboolture won't be the same without you, it's taken me most of the week to convince myself to run but finally i think i will. I suppose having the 50K at Canberra as a goal race does mean you should focus your training towards that, so it does seem the right idea, certainly the training so far sounds like it's going great !

I've heard of 'send-off drinks' but never a 'send-off run'. Any excuse........

You aren't just going to set a new 50k PB in Canberra, you are going to SMASH your existing one. Can't wait to be there to see it!

Looking good for Canberra, Tess.

It's great when you nail a time you're not that sure about, so well done on the time trial.

Two months to Canberra - I look forward to catching up there!

Cheers,
Ben

All the best with the monsoonal rains...:-)
Send-off run hey thats a great idea! I did a bucks weekend of running and hiking in the mountains, only problem was it scared off my non-running family and friends, but maybe they'll lift their game in the future.

Looking good for your Canberra plans for sure! Its good to periodize/throw in an easy week at least once a month too. An excellent mix of 4min per k or faster short stuff and plenty of long runs too. Way to go!

Yep, Canberra is going to be so exciting, Tess! Pity I won't see you for dust! For drinks is another question!

Does that 1.5kgs of sweat make the bucket half full or half empty?

By the confident sound of that PB prediction it must be half full ;)
