Help Me Make It Through The Night

Its my rest day today but I'm still dedicating some time to running by working on my 'race strategy' for Caboolture, starting with the music. I'm gonna break it up into hour or half hour long segments of different genres or themes.

I thought one of them could be requests. If you have a minute and don't mind indulging me, please let me know a song and I'll play it for you. If I don't have it already I'll try to get a hold of it.

I know you don't get to hear your request, but I do :-)

What sort of music do you want?

Anything!

Well, anything except for maybe Barry Manilow or Mariah Carey. Or that guy with the hair, Michael Bolten.

OK, well I'm a big fan of Daft Punk, so how about 'One more time' to get you pumped for just one more lap, or 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' to get you feeling, well er... harder, better, faster and stronger.

90k last week was big Tesso - for reasons stated in my blog I have that Lee Kernigan song "The Outback Club" - I'm not normally a C & W fan but it seems appropriate.

"We're all members of the outback club, we don't back down and we don't give up. We're all livin in the land we love, born and raised we're members of the outback club".

Hehe could substitute outback club for team j club ;-)

I'll have to give you my Cher song..it sounds corny but it is quite good and very relevant to the lonely running that you will be doing (ie out there on your own for 12hours).

"....When you’re standing on the edge of no where, There’s only one way up....."

oooh I am getting excited!!

Sorry - that deleted one was me.

I hope this one helps, Tesso:

Legs - by ZZ Top

"She’s got legs, she knows how to use them.
She never begs, she knows how to choose them.
.........
Stays out at night, movin’ through time.
........
the girl is alright, she's alright."

"Long Time Gone" by Crosby, Stills, Nash from their first album.

Should go down well at 3:00am in the morning!

It's been a long time comin',
It's going to be a long time gone.
But you know, the darkest hour,
Is always, always just before the dawn.
And it appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long time,
Such a long, long, long, long time before the dawn

Well its gotta be 'Wish You Well' by my good mate Bernard Fanning :) Only joking! One of my favourites is 'Lift Me Up' by Moby - a good song to get you going when you're struggling (not that you will)

Thanks for the birthday wishes Tesso.
I don't think I could help with any music unless it is something like Mozart's Concerto for Harp and Flute.

What a brilliant idea, Tess! That way we all get to share the time with you! I'm afraid I go too far back for a youngster like yourself to know songs from my era! But I thought we could all join hands with you when the going gets tough & sing "Auld Lang Syne"!

'Songbird' by Bernard Fanning
Honestly I have no idea what it is about and I cant even write any of the lyrics, but it sounds good and that's the main thing :)

Great idea Tess - would love to be along for the ride with you.

Seeing as Mister G's already taken the token Rammstein selection (although I would have recommended "Links 2-3-4"), I'd love you to try and get "Bug Powder Dust" by Bomb the Bass to listen for me - that should take you a week to track down ;)

But if you really get stuck, how about "Wish you were Here" by Pink Floyd? That running track would resemble a fishbowl after a while ... "running over the same old ground, year after year ..."

Hmmmm - how about "Turn up the radio" by Masters Apprentices (particularly when you're feeling tired) or "Minority" by Green Day.

Good luck! Will be thinking of you :-)

Nice request CJ (Turn up your radio).

Tesso, can I have another request?

A mid-70s reggae number very upbeat and bubbly, "All Night Till Daylight" by Jacob Miller and Inner Circle, although the nocturnal activity he is singing about isn't exactly running.

Speedway at Nazareth - Mark Knopfler.

Time to Say Goodbye - Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli.

Teardrop - Massive Attack.

Wind Cries Mary - Caron Wheeler.

Alive & Kicking - Simple Minds.

Go for a Warren Zevon set. Not that it has much to do with running, but it should take your mind off the pain for a while. Well, I am just thinking of songs that you know well and that can transport you away from the here and now. Another candidate for me would be Richard Clapton:
"Sittin' out on the Palm Beach Road,
Feel so drunk and the car won't go,
Crazy eyes keep slippin' out to sea..."
