Gold Coast Marathon 2008

Mission accomplished. I took it easy, had a bit of fun, and got to the end in one piece. Hammy is fine, and hardly any DOMS to speak of. Though I do have a sort spot from the belly punch Ewen gave me at the 27k mark ;)

My only real problem was a blister threatening to form in the same spot that got me in Canberra. Stopping and adjusting my shoe and sock five or six times did the trick there. And it gave me a bit of a rest :) Better get that sorted before Melbourne Marathon.

I thought I'd finish somewhere between 4:00 and 4:15, and I did - a net time of 4:06.13. Its a PW, and over half an hour slower than Canberra, but I'm more than happy.

Quite a few highlights but the best part was running the last couple of kms with Blair, especially when we hit the CR cheersquad and then the PCRG cheersquad. Awesome does not begin to describe how great they were!

And that last km was my fastest of the day but I had to keep up with Blair ... he's claiming that he was just trying to keep up with me. Too funny!

At some point along the way

Blair forcing me to run faster .... he was trying to steal a koala kebab

Good to hear the hammy held together. I'd take a PW at the moment. Maybe I can manage one at C2S. Oh hell I have to pace you. I better do some training soon.

but is it a personal worst when you just went out to have fun and see if your hammy could handle it? the slowest time can't always be the worst. and you had kebabs.

Well done Tesso on getting through the 19th relatively unscathed! Great photos as usual!
All the best with sorting out the blister. Maybe look at the socks and shoes there...Looks like you enjoyed the experience despite the PW, and when you look back thats a lot of what its about...
The times are merely motivaters to bring out the best in oneself.
Hope you look after the hammy, and don't have any recurrence. Well done!!!

I was soooo relieved to read your report. I looked up your time as soon as I could, and all we could think was that you'd staggered home damaged.

As the Beatles said, "I should'a known better with a girl like you..." :-)

Glad you're still standing!

Delighted to hear you got through GC without any issues Tess.
So can I punch you in the belly next time I see you? :)
Onwards and upwards!

Tesso, I'm amazed that you went in GC so close to a hammy injury, so in my book finishing can't be a PW! Congratulations.

One thing, NO INJURIES BEFORE MELBOURNE!

Mate, that's good. I still have bruises from the three punches you gave me at the 27k mark!

Watch out - I'll be after revenge in Melbourne ;)

I took the "sensible" approach & opted not to run. Regret it now... you did so well, congrats.

Yes Tesso like others have said it really can't be counted as a PW unless you were racing and did that time. I will be long gone by the time you start doing those kind of times while giving 100%.

Well I hope I'm not here to see that anyway ;)

So pleased that all went well, Tess.

But why are so many wanting to punch you in the belly??!! Jealousy, I dare say!

pleased to see u cruisin along at GC.
hope things get better permanently soon.
the good thing about a PW is it gives u more buffer the next time u have a non-injury related shocker.
