C2S 2006

After meeting up with Bernie, Blue Dog and Superflake outside the baggage dropoff at the Water Board before they even opened up we all headed to the start line and were there shortly after 7am. With the race not kicking off until 9.30am that ensured a pretty good spot.

The time passed amazingly quickly. It was great to catch up again with so many fellow bloggers, CRs and Brissie runners as well as meet a few that had been on my 'list' including Blkbox. It was like a little party - there was lots of food passed around, goals discussed, plus the odd bit of sledging :-)

As for the race the hills hurt. And then they hurt some more. Due to the ITB injury I'd done stuff all hill work in six months, maybe three sessions, so I guess it was always going to be my weakness.

I'd set a goal of sub 66. I knew I wasn't up to bettering my previous two C2S times - 65:05 (2004) and 63:30 (2005). I was a bit panicky when I saw the big clock at the 7k mark and it read 35 mins flat and so reassessed the goal to a sub 70. I got to 10k in 48:xx (ha ha, that's usually where I'm at in marathons!) and thought sub 68 was a possibility.

From about 11k onwards I stuck to the left hand side knowing the cheersquad was coming up soon ... well, in 2ks time is sort of soon :-) It was around here that R2B ran by so I tried to keep up with him. We stuck together for a little while, which was great as he was absolutely flying down the hills. I really was moving a lot faster than I would have if I was on my own - thanks mate!

Finally there they were - JD, Jen, Rags and Sparkie - woohoo! Running up Campbell Pde I spotted CJ just in front and tried hard to catch her but she was finishing so strongly and just getting further and further away.

A glance at the clock in the finishing straight and I knew if I put the foot down that original sub 66 goal was in the bag. Yay - 65:48!!! How's that for a negative split - 35:00 and 30:48 :-)

The post run celebrations are all part of the fun of this event. It was great to hear about fantastic runs by so many people - Tuggeranong Don and his sub 60, Gronk, fellow Team J bloggers Kit and Bernie, Spud backing up from 12ft the day before. The list goes on. Aki's asthma attack mid race, and then stopping to help a woman who collapsed in front of her was the story of the day, especially considering she still ran 67:xx!

The Gronk/GoGirl/Tesso bus didn't quite eventuate this year, the Gronk was a little too fast for we girls. But we've already started our secret training for 2007 so he'd better watch out.

great report Tess - and great back-end split! Glad we all had such a fantastic weekend, and it was of course great to catch up with my most shared-race-CR-person ;)

Hey, hope you get a chance to check my latest blog posting - you'll get to see the fantastic image that is now taking pride and place on the desktop!

Glad to have you back on-line and it was great to catch up with you on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you again in December - I'll shout you to an Italian hot chocolate - to die for!

And you weren't that far behind me either!

Good run. Sounde like a great day as well.

I am saving my B2B Results page. Hoping to get your autograph just like Eddie.

You certainly are in illustrious company on that photo collage. A man dresed up as a Duff Beer bottle, two thumb sucking adults dressed in nappies, two people with Elton John glasses and rainbow wigs, someone in an apple costume, Star Troopers, a couple of men with shoulder length pink wigs and devil's horns, lots of teenage girls in pink dresses and cheap necklaces.

Do you think you and Clairie were the token "serious" runners or the editors saw you as being just as whacky as the rest of the others?

I've been keeping an eye on my Bloglines for this ;-)

Great to hear you had a fun and ultimately successful (sub 66) trip to Sin City. That PB can wait for another (injury-free) year.

I'm glad you had a great race Tesso.

Hey, a little birdy told me you've been saying nice things about me. It's a sin to tell a lie you know ;)

There are not many of us who can catch CJ when she gets moving at the end of a run...

Well done hanging in there on a tough C2S run.

It was great to catch up again.
One day I'll have to get back to QLD, if I can find an excuse.

Well done on the end result Tesso. You really nailed that back end for a huge negative split.

Fantastic run, Tesso. You looked great when I saw you during the race itself and you still looked great at the finish. Neat trick! Why weren't you heaving, puking, sweating, panting and roasting like the rest of us?

And of course I loved getting to talk to one of the legends of Blogland, too. Your Canberra connections can't wait to see you again down south. Take care.

Sensational result Tesso - particularly given the last 6 months you have had. Me thinks there will be one additional entry in 2008!

Well done on the race Tesso. Glad the ITB decided to play ball. It was great to catch up with you again. Maybe at Sydney Half/Mara next time if you are coming down again?

I have something (separate) in common with you and GoGirl; you each have something I'll never have : a sub 70 min C2S. Great run. I can't even use the old "well I'm xx years older" line can I?
See you at the Sherbet rally. Hope you enjoyed Sydney. Must update my blog - when the lurgi goes away...

Fabulous effort girlfriend!

Though you never mentioned the 5min negative split...you must have been mowing everyone down in that last 5km. Great run!!

Next year didn't you say we were both running sub 60? Guess that means Cootha will become our buddy again...yippee
